Welcome to the Department of Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and optional concentrations in Software Engineering and in Computer and Information Security. Faculty in the Department of Computer Science conduct numerous research projects with funding from a variety of federal and state funding agencies. Research is conducted in areas such as algorithms, bioinformatics, computer and information security, computer architecture, computer networks, databases, high performance computing, parallel and distributed systems, programming languages and compilers, and software engineering among others.
CS Department Welcomes New Faculty
Each year, top researchers and leading industry experts join the University of Texas at San Antonio. The Department of Computer Science is pleased to announce the addition of three new faculty members to the UTSA community.
Dr. Meng Yu (left in photo) joins the department as an associate professor. He received his Ph.D. from Nanjing University and previously conducted post-doctoral research at Pennsylvania State University-University Park. Dr. Yu has research interests in computer and system security, cloud computing, and virtualization. Dr. Tongping Liu (middle in photo) joins the department as an assistant professor. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and received a Google Faculty Research Award in Summer 2015. Dr. Liu has research interests in parallel computing, big data, and operating systems. Dr. Mikhail Gubanov (right in photo) joins the department as a Cloud Technology Endowed assistant professor. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington and conducted post-doctoral research at M.I.T. with Dr. Michael Stonebraker (2015 ACM Turing Award winner and member of the National Academy of Engineering). Dr. Gubanov has research interests in big data, machine learning, natural language processing, and biomedical informatics.
