Welcome to the Department of Computer Science

 

The Department of Computer Science offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and optional concentrations in Software Engineering, Computer and Information Security, Cloud and Systems, and Data Science. Faculty in the Department of Computer Science conduct numerous research projects with funding from a variety of federal and state funding agencies. Research is conducted in areas such as cybersecurity, big data analytics, parallel and distributed computing, networks, databases, machine learning, computer vision, image processing, software engineering and testing, human computer interaction, game development, operating systems, and bioinformatics among others.

NSA Designates UTSA a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations

 


 

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) has been designated by the National Security Agency (NSA) as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations Fundamental (CAE-Cyber Operations) for 2018 through 2023. The designation recognizes UTSA’s ability to thoroughly prepare workforce-ready professionals to protect the nation’s information infrastructure. "The designation of CAE for Cyber Operations is a major accomplishment for the Computer Science program and UTSA's cyber initiative," said Dr. Rajendra Boppana, professor of Computer Science.

Each year, top researchers and leading industry experts join the University of Texas at San Antonio. The Department of Computer Science is pleased to announce the addition of three new faculty members to the UTSA community.

Dr. Meng Yu (left in photo) joins the department as an associate professor. He received his Ph.D. from Nanjing University and previously conducted post-doctoral research at Pennsylvania State University-University Park. Dr. Yu has research interests in computer and system security, cloud computing, and virtualization. Dr. Tongping Liu (middle in photo) joins the department as an assistant professor. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and received a Google Faculty Research Award in Summer 2015. Dr. Liu has research interests in parallel computing, big data, and operating systems. Dr. Mikhail Gubanov (right in photo) joins the department as a Cloud Technology Endowed assistant professor. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington and has published and co-authored various publications. Dr. Gubanov has research interests in big data, machine learning, natural language processing, and biomedical informatics.
